West Midlands Car Crime Map Q2 2026: Where Thefts Are Concentrating
A postcode-by-postcode look at West Midlands vehicle crime in mid-2026: which areas are worst hit, what's being taken, and what changes the protection picture.

Region-by-region: where thefts concentrate
West Midlands Police's Q1 2026 release of vehicle crime data shows two patterns worth pausing on:
-
Sutton Coldfield, Solihull and Edgbaston continue to dominate luxury-vehicle thefts. These areas cluster high-value vehicles on driveways with reduced line-of-sight to the road — exactly the conditions a relay attack exploits.
-
South Birmingham postcodes (B13, B14, B15, B17, B20, B28, B29) show a sharp rise in CAN-bus injection thefts on Land Rover products. Many of these cars are recovered damaged and written off rather than returned in usable condition.
Across the wider region — Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Coventry, Lichfield, Tamworth, Cannock and Burton — theft is up ~14% year-on-year on Land Rover products and ~8% on BMW X-series.
What this means for owners
Two practical conclusions:
-
A tracker is the floor of protection. If you own a vehicle from a target list (Range Rover, BMW X5/X7, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q7, Ford Transit), recovery after the event is the minimum. Thefts end with the car in a lockup within 2 hours.
-
An immobiliser is the ceiling. A Ghost II permanently raises the technical bar — an attacker needs physical access for a long time and an amount of effort comparable to stripping the dashboard. That alone redirects them to a softer target.
