What is an Engine Immobiliser?
An engine immobiliser is an aftermarket security device installed inside your vehicle to provide an additional layer of protection to your car. It is a discreet device with no key-fobs or indicators, undetectable to a car thief. It connects to your vehicle’s CAN-BUS system and automatically immobilises your car once installed. The most popular engine immobiliser is the Ghost Immobiliser is undetectable using diagnostics and there are no radio signals. It communicates with the vehicle’s ECU (engine control unit) on the CAN Data circuit.
The only way to turn off the immobiliser and successfully start the engine is by successfully entering the set pin code, like a chip and pin for your vehicle. The unique pin code is set by the driver made up of various control inside the vehicle such as the centre console buttons, foot pedals, indicators etc. It also has set up service/maintenance modes to protect the driver’s main code from being compromised.
Once it has been successfully installed by an approved fitter such as Car Theft Solutions, it is near impossible to successfully bypass, making it one of the most effective ways to keep your vehicle safe.
The only way a thief could steal your vehicle once fitted with an engine immobiliser is by physically towing it away – even then they would not be able to start the engine once stationary.
